The Technology Divide

In many cases, parents now days can't really afford new technology devices. For example, my family has been extremely blessed and this has allowed my family and I to become more knowledgeable when it comes to technology. However, this isn't the case for everyone around me. Some kids I went to high school with had never owned a computer at their house, the only access they had to that kind of technology was their school that they attended.

I feel that to some extend the schools are responsible for the students technological knowledge. However, public schools can't afford to buy ipads or tables for every student and teacher at each school. Schools are only responsible for a small portion of the students technological knowledge.

Students should be required to use technology in their education. For example most of the colleges thought the USA require students to have a computer and Internet access to upload their work, submit presentations, etc... If anything, this will allow students the ability to get a head start on becoming familiar with some of the programs that they will be using if they choose to further their education.

To make it more fair, public schools should invest in new technology and allow students to use them whenever. Another way to narrow the divide is to lower the prices on the new technology. Other than these steps, there really isn't nothing we can do to narrow the divide except for allowing students access to all the technology that is available at the current time.
